CCHS HANDS TEAM

As you guys know, a group from Chatham Christian High school will be going to the Dominican Republic from Febuary 28 - March 9 on a missions trip with World Wide Christian Schools. While our team is there we will be working at a local school putting on an addition. As we go, we ask you to pray for us, that we will all stay healthy, and God will work in us to make a difference to the people we come in contact with. Thanks for your prayers and support. -CCHS HANDS Team-

The Weekend!

Hey Everyone, sorry we haven't blogged in a while, we have been really busy, and it has been hard to get to the internet. Saturday we worked for half the day and then went to the "Cave of the Three Eyes". it is called that because there are 3 little lakes that have a ceiling above them, it was really cool. Sunday we went to a spanish church in the morning, it was pretty cool and 2 hours long. Even though we couldn't understand a thing we could feel the presence of the Lord there. they even tried speaking a little english, making the pastors say there names in english, and they were laughed at by their own converstaiton because of how they talked, it was great fun. After this we took a tour around town that was all about Christopher Columbus, it was pretty interesting. Sunday night we went to Paul's english church. they only have about 10 members in the congregation, and you can tell they are very close knit again that service was 2 hours long... that makes it 4 hours of church!! one with no air ad one with air. Today it was back to work again, and it was pretty hot. The buildingis comming along fairly well, and we can proudly say we helped. during the kids recess, we work right beside one of the chrstian schools, they guys played with the kids. we were hanging on our side of the wall, lifting kids in the air as high as we could, and the wall is about 8 feet tall. some of the guys also played red ace with the kids, which was also fun. This truely is an aesome experience.. and we are going to miss it here! Here is a picture for all you who think the guys don't work as much as the girls!!!

hopefully we talk to you soon!! thank you soo much for all your comments

p.s.. NO DIAREAH!!! YIPPEE... and moms please don't cook us rice or chicken or beef OR cook with OIL AND SALT FOR THE next 5 months!! we have had it everyday for either lunch or supper.... or BOTH!! no LIE~

First Day

Hey Everyone.... This morning the girls went to the market to buy lunch so we could make it with Rosie(a dominican lady that helped us cook a dominican meal). While we were out shopping (for groceries) the guys were laying bricks/blocks. This morning we woke up to rain!!very rare for the dominican..But we ended the day in sunshine!.The temperature is probably about 25....oh and by the way, Brent,Martin, and Justin are "red necks"...aka...sunburnt.
Here are a few stories that we come across since our plane landed in the Dominican:
First off, The whole team got invaded for tips because they carried our lugage. Scott gave a very generous amount of money, after saying he didn't have a wallet.
The kids are adorable here! There is one that has caught our eye because she was hanging around us all day...Racheal the grand daughter of Rosie. Mr. Bartels and the dominicans are all super nice people!
Our rooms are pretty nice, better than we were expecting. Each room has at least two fans in them, and their own bathroom and a shower.
So we are definetly all in a culture shock. Driving is just crazzzy, everyone cuts everyone off not caring about others vehicles. Theres people coming up to your car while your stopped at a light to sell things such as, sugar cane, and cellphone chargers.
WEll we should be heading out!Mr. Bartels wants his computer back! so we all miss you...we'll talk to you soon!...

P.S. None of us have diarreah yet!

Airport DELAYS!!!

Good Morning Everyone...

We made it as far as New Jersey, After an hour delay we got to the hotel around midnight. We were put on a 50-passenger plane with most of the passengers being our team! As the turbulence was high, Mr. Grootenboer was afraid of loosing his eye, so he taught us some quick safety percautions! It is 6:30 a.m. and we are on our way to the airport to go to the DR! ZERO Cases of Diarrhea so far! we are off to a good start! Have a good one, and talk to you later!
